About Me

I grew up between the towers of my family’s country radio station in the rural Driftless Area of northeast Iowa. Despite having not grown an inch since the fifth grade, my small stature is often overlooked due to my BIG personality. I try to live a rich life filled with unique stories, people and places.

I spent the first 18 years of my life at the same salt-and-pepper brick home, but could not stop moving in my 20s, living in Iowa City, Seattle, Chicago, Busan (South Korea) and Breckenridge. I am now settled in Denver, where I spend my free time biking, playing softball and volleyball, hiking, backpacking, rafting, dominating at team trivia and traveling.

  • I once raced across Chicago on my bike to dance on stage in a polyester burka at an MIA concert. My night ended with heat stroke.

  • As a child and teenager, I was what some call a pool rat, making me a very strong swimmer. That said, I almost drowned at the Rocket Festival in Vang Vieng, Laos, while serving as a human life raft to three local children celebrating with their families.

My flowing pants caught the current and ballooned open under water, pulling me below the surface. The children, unaware of my impending death, were gleefully relying on me to stay afloat. After a minute of struggling to grasp breath, I knew I was going to start sucking in water from the river. In that instant, my big toe hit sand and I was able to stand and carry the children back to shore.
